TrendMicro OfficeScan Upgrade

Kudos to Trend Micro for providing a very seamless upgrade from OfficeScan/ServerProtect 7.3 to 8.0. To my surprise, it was as simple as validating the new license key, downloading version 8, and install on our central TrendMicro AV server. Our AV server then seamlessly and quickly pushed out the client updates without user interruption. In addition, there are some nice features in the new version that we can take advantage of.

I was anticipating a nightmare of uninstalling clients and re-installing (similar to the nightmare Symantec caused us a couple of years ago... arrrggg, curse you Symantec!), but it was actually very pleasant.

Thanks to Trend Micro!

Do you mind sharing the method you used to upgrade from version 7.3 to 8 ?

Thanks

Sure... It was as easy as running the install/upgrade on the central OfficeScan server. The central server in turn, pushed out the new client to each client machine. It was surprisingly seamless.

Same process goes for ServerProtect. Install on the central (known as the Information Server), the server will then push the new clients out to all SPNT machines.

Regards!

So i just run the upgrade on the main server and it will automatically update the clients as well ?

And i assume you got the update from here:

Now wait for the client app to use twice as much memory as before. Trend admits this is an issue. They are loading the entire spyware database into memory regardless if you use that feature or not. Memory usage for NTRSCAN went from 8mb under 7.3 to a bloated 54mb. They claim they are working on a fix due sometime in q1 08

The memory usage problem is very true. On my business desktop machine running TM Officescan, the combined memory usage from NTRtScan.exe, TmListen.exe and PccNTMon.exe starts at about 56mb. The larger problem is that it grows over time. After running this desktop (XP Pro) for about a week, it grows to OVER 200mb!
That is crazy and on obvious memory leak bug.

I was told under 7.3 server protect was not needed. Just push the regular client to servers. (2000,2003 servers)

Is it normal if NTRtScan.exe, TmListen.exe and PccNTMon.exe take a combined memory usage of around 50-56MB and it doesn't grow?

The memory leak in 8.0 is terrible. We have even loaded all of the available hot fixes. It seems to only affect our DC's... XP clients seem to not be affected, but they probably are restarted more often. Any one find any tweaks to avoid this?
